Heating Assistance Program Applications Being Accepted

Pennsylvania’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) grant program has begun accepting applications, according to Sen. Chuck McIlhinney (R-Bucks and Montgomery).

LIHEAP provides grants to help low-income families pay heating bills during the winter months. LIHEAP also offers crisis grants for families that experience heating emergencies, such as a broken furnace, fuel shortage or utility termination.

The program is targeted to individuals and families earning less than 150 percent of the federal poverty level, or about $17,505 for a single individual or $35,775 for a family of four. Grant amounts are based on income, family size, type of heating fuel and region.

Applications for LIHEAP are available at McIlhinney’s district offices at 22 South Main Street, Suite 220 in Doylestown and 56 East Bridge Street, Suite 1 in Morrisville. Additional information regarding LIHEAP and other home heating assistance programs is available by contacting county assistance offices, local utility companies and community service agencies.

Local residents can also apply for LIHEAP grants online at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Access to Social Services (COMPASS) website, www.compass.state.pa.us. More information on the program is also available by calling the LIHEAP hotline at 1-866-857-7095.
