Fitzpatrick, House Pass Bill to Support American Energy Globally

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released the following statement Wednesday June 25th, 2014 regarding the House passage of the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act [H.R. 6] – bipartisan legislation to expedite exports of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) to our allies abroad:

"As we've seen with recent events around the world, access to and production of energy plays an important role in geopolitical affairs. Today’s bipartisan legislation promotes American energy as a peaceful means of not only promoting stability abroad, but also growing our energy economy.

Our nation – including Pennsylvania – is blessed with abundant energy resources, and policies like H.R. 6 that allow us to utilize these resources in a safe, responsible manner will play an important role in growing our economy. In our commonwealth alone, the passage of this common sense legislation is expected to support more than 59,000 family-sustaining jobs.

America needs an all of the above energy strategy, that includes natural gas, to improve our national security and lower domestic energy prices. We can also boost our economy through exports while supporting our objective of peace and prosperity in the world. This legislation is a commitment to both."

Due to advancements in technology and innovation, America’s natural gas output has rapidly increased over the last decade and is expected to continue rising in the decades ahead in response to growing demand. Analysts have concluded that America has more than enough gas to supply our domestic needs and the export market. A study commissioned by the Department of Energy concluded that the export of U.S. LNG would result in net gains to our domestic economy that will increase with the level of exports.
